benetton B192 -06

I applied all decals on the rims, glued the air valves and clearcoated them with two layers of TS-13.
The moulding line on the tyres were sanded.
I airbrushed the logos on the tyres using a template and weathered them with a mist coat of smoke+flat black.
I masked the sidepods and airbrushed them with semigloss black.
The copckit was glued in its place and finished the nose cone decal.
I scratchbuilt the brakes wiring using vynil tub and cooper wire.
Finally I glued the front suspension arms.

Hi, I admire your work. Great looking cars. I am trying to build up a 1:20 scale F1 car park myself. Got a lot of models, but I am only at the beginning of constructing them. Guess I am just a slow builder.

I recently started to consider using tyre templates to paint the tyre logos instead of using the decals. So I bought me a template from Crazy Modeler. Without having much of an idea on how to us them. I see you use them to good effect. Can you tell perhaps how you use them? I mean: what "procedure" you follow in applying the template, putting the paint on, ... I know you use the airbrush. No problems of the paint running between the template and the tyre? Primer needed? Personally I am using Vallejo paints and I do use an airbrush as well. Any help would be welcome.

Hi,
first of all thank you very much for your nice words!
About how to use tyre templates....it's really more simple than it seems. just put the template on the tyre and airbrush a very light coat of matt white. I never had problems of the paint running (and I must admit I was affraid of it the first time I did it). On of the things you have to take some care is to press to template to the tyre. As you know, the tyres have a little curve shape and, if you don't press well the template, there will be a gap beetween both and the paint will go in there. I always press the template to the tyre with one finger when I'm airbrushing it.
I never used primmer, only acrilyc matt white (I use tamiya's but I think that vallejo will also be good).
And after it I also airbhush a very very lightcoat of matt black + smoke to make a dirty effect on them. You can also see it on the building diaries of the ferraris 126c2 and 126ck. And I also use this tip if I use tyre decals as you will see in the tyrrell 020 post. It gives a very realystic effect.
and finally, I only clear coat the tyres if I use the decals, I never do it if I use the templates. In the case of the decals, I always use gunze matt clear spray.
Hope it will help you! I'm sorry for my bad english.... but I hope you will understand me. If you have some more doubts, don't hesitate to ask.
best regards and good luck!
